Raymond Pierre Chigot
The musical score constitutes a project worth several tens of millions of dollars, with numerous participants that may make its performance very complex. “As a principle, I approach each step very pragmatically and do not let myself get bogged down in the difficulties, which will naturally arise. On the other hand, I ask that my team demonstrate imagination in finding solutions and answers to each obstacle that may arise”.

Conquer obstacles, anticipate the development of a country, see an opportunity where others only see difficult: it is with such an approach that Raymond Pierre Chigot has been able to complete projects, which would otherwise not have seen the light of day without a good dose of enthusiasm and conviction.
In this way, in 1994, when the Prime Minister of Romania decided to add its country to the pool of tourist destinations, he called upon Raymond Pierre Chigot to add a symbol of the international hotel industry to Bucharest. After a quick tour of the city, only one option could meet both the hopes of the country's directors and the requirements of Hilton: the renovation of Athenee Palace. This traditional palace had aged significantly and its functioning was nowhere near international norms of the time, even though it held the best location in the city and the memory of sites around it were begging to be reborn. It took all the conviction of Raymond Pierre Chigot to obtain the transfer of the property from state ownership to a new structure with the support of local investors, the financial participation of the government and the international bank of development.

Revolutionising the traditional habits in the Eastern European countries, he would proceed with the total closing of the building for two years, and totally transform the hotel, paying compensation for the 400 employees who were personally looked after with the greatest respect, inventing procedures and writing contracts when the Roman administration did not have the necessary reference materials. “The country wanted to shake off the yoke of the past; we were ready to accompany it by totally getting involved”, recalls Raymond Chigot. “It was necessary to learn to work in an environment that emerged from many years of status quo and energize those involved.

The result is a model of resurrection, the combination of a country's souvenirs of the past, and the best service possible through technology that found its place at the building's preserved heart”.

Sometimes it is about a true technological challenge where other developers were not able to find a solution. In Frankfurt, it is generally considered that the best location in the city is found around Stadtbad Mitte, its public park and its Olympic-size swimming pool, listed as a historic monument. The proximity of banks and business areas would guarantee a good level of business at a hotel that would be able to enter into this protected environment. The solution would come from the long partnership between Raymond Pierre Chigot and his favourite architect, John Seifert. The project presented to the city would win acceptance: a modern building that overlooks the swimming pool complex without dominating it or hindering access, a transparency of forms and materials the literally opens the hotel out onto the surrounding park, maintaining a spirit of lightness and fluidity, and moreover 350 rooms at the very heart of the business district. Still today, the Hilton Frankfurt is the city's reference for hotels.
