Relatively rare in Europe, the skyscrapers in Frankfurt am Main have given the city the nickname of "Mainhattan". Largely destroyed during the Second World War, Frankfurt would see its first skyscrapers appear in the 1960s and 1970s as a result of strong economic expansion. Symbolising the power of businesses and the German finance capital, even higher skyscrapers would appear in the 1990s.
In 1998, a new luxury hotel would be constructed in the city: the Hilton Frankfurt Hotel, which would allow lodging professionals of the finance industry. |
